Welcome to Progressive Minds

To all of you who first heard about this website from The Royal Gazette, welcome! We're glad you're here. Please, have a look around, register an account and speak your mind!

www.progressiveminds.bm is a website owned and operated by the PLP. Though this site was originally created for what was then the recognised “youth wing” of the PLP, since 2008 this has not been the purpose of this site.

Ministers and Members Salaries Review Board Report 2008

Below is the report submitted to the speaker of the house on MP Salaries. There have been complaints of lack of "Constructive" debate so hopefully this will help. This is the full majority report, and the PDF can be downloaded at the bottom of this page. If I get my hands on the Minority Report I'll post it as another attachment.

As I've said many times before, this is a forum for free speech. However, we do not condone personal attacks. When it came to our attention that an inappropriate video was posted by a Progressive Minds member, we went ahead and removed it. Thanks for reading.

The Struggle for Equality

Below is an excellent post from the PLP Website

Today's Bermuda Sun features an excellent series of in-depth reports on the PLP Government's plan to ensure equality of opportunity in Bermuda.

A feature article by Nigel Regan tells the touching story of 'Jean,' a professional Bermudian woman who, despite her education and experience, has struggled with discrimination throughout her life. The Bermuda Sun:

Nation's Leader Wants to Talk -- on Facebook

Here is a story that was published on abcnews.com

It's hard for many young people in Bermuda to believe, but the island nation's top government official really does want to be their friend -- their Facebook friend, that is.

UBP Duddz

That latest shameful attempt to campaign by the UBP (hop on the back of a Reggae Artist name Collie Buddz) has backfired in such a grand way. Seems that Mr. Colin Harper isn't a fan of those Haterz over there in MilkWorld...

According to a harper digital spokesman:

Collie is not politically motivated, he's neutral, not supporting or affiliating himself with any particular party. The concert for the ISL was

In My Opinion

In my opinion, Opposition Leader Michael Dunkley declared war when he stated on the Everest DaCosta show earlier this week that he makes no apologies for referring to the Bermuda Progressive Labour Party (PLP) as the “Brown Regime”. In this way, Mr. Dunckley is taking references to the PLP to a higher level of contempt than his predecessors who referred to PLP governments as the “Smith Government” and later the “Scott Government”. We were never the Progressive Labour Party Government to the Opposition United Bermuda Party.

Just the Facts

1. FACT:
In 2002, an operation initiated, presumably, by order of the Governor of Bermuda, the Bermuda Police Service, Britain’s Scotland Yard and US Homeland Security mounted a joint investigation into allegations of illegalities related to the BHC.

2. FACT:
The formidable assets available to and deployed on behalf of the investigating units and countries produced – through due process - the prosecution, conviction and incarceration of a person guilty of criminal action in relation to the BHC.

3. FACT:

To the admin or to whome it concerns,

It is indeed sad to see name calling on this blog site. I'm a member
and I read the blogs everyday and I wish to take part in blogging but to me
this site is turning into a playground. All I see are the same people
threading ignorant comments and not thoughts of progress. Also, I see
people trying to show how smart and articulate they are but not presenting
food for thought. Where is the constructive reason of argument (if I can say

Press Release from the Premier

This is a disappointing day for all Bermuda's innocent citizens.

Our judiciary has taught us confidential documents related to Police investigations are fit to print - even if the subjects of the investigation have been fully exonerated of criminal wrongdoing. The ruling seems grossly unfair and is a devastating blow to public confidence in the Police.

Nonetheless the jurists have spoken and their determination, or the determination of a higher court, must be honored because Bermuda is a country of laws and good order.

Diggin' for Dirt

Below is a Press Release from the Premier. All i can say is, how low can the media go!

Just as the public is well informed on the work of its elected officials, it should also be kept abreast on the work of some of its media organizations.

To that end, the public should know The Royal Gazette has spent the week very closely searching through the Premier’s and his wife’s personal backgrounds. One example stretches back ten years.

Caring for our Seniors

While the media is all a frenzy over political games, the PLP government is delivering for Bermudians. A few days ago, we unveiled a sweeping, new and progressive plan for providing our disabled with equality of access. Now, the PLP government is looking out for our respected elders.

Equality of Access

Minister Wayne Perinchief recently unveiled the National Policy on Disabilities to the acclaim of members of both parties. Noting that 3,000 Bermudians live with disabilities, Minister Perinchief and the PLP government team acknowledge both the difficulty of living with a disability and the fact that many disabled Bermudians are subject to discrimination.

Brown and Cox Deliver for Bermuda

Kudos to Premier Ewart Brown and Deputy Premier Paula Cox on the incredible success of the US-Bermuda bilateral visit.

Yesterday's productive visit had the Bermuda team visiting with ten influential members of Congress in seven hours. This included high ranking members in both the U.S. Senate and the U.S. House from both the Republican and Democratic parties.

Bermuda is Sold Out!

Below is a blog post from the PLP Website that was posted on April 23rd. Since a poster wanted to 'discuss' this topic let us go ahead. Curious to see the arguements against science

Today's RG has a story that tourism arrivals for 2006 were up 22.9% over the previous year. Air arrivals are back to their pre 9/11 levels. It looks as though the diligent work of the Premier and the Department of Tourism (not some ‘tourism authority’) are paying off nicely. 2007 is also off to a nice start with arrivals up 23% over the first 3 months of the year.

Premier's Statement

In response to the story printed in last Friday's Mid-Ocean News, the premier made the following statement on Friday night.

Fellow Bermudians; residents and friends of Bermuda:

I consider it my duty to speak with you this evening about the publication of serious allegations against me and other named persons, on the front page of today’s Mid Ocean News. Today is one of the darkest days for journalism in Bermuda.
