Short memories, Indeed

This column authored presumably by the prolific UBP Shadow Environment Minister was published Thursday, Feb 22, 2007.

Government should purchase the 37-acre Southlands property for conversion to a national park to benefit all Bermudians for generations to come.

It should open negotiations with the property owners to conclude a fair price. Failing that, the Government could proceed by way of compulsory purchase order.

Makai's letter to the editor.

Mr. Dunkley's ignorance

September 14, 2007

Dear Sir,

This letter is in reply to Michael Dunkley's letter in yesterday's (September 13) Royal Gazette.

Mr. Dunkley's remarks in his letter were just as ignorant as they were when they were printed in the article he referred to. The fact that he chose to use a young man's death to gain political brownie points shows that he has no respect for the family of the young man or for the community as a whole.

Dunkley: PLP is failing us on crime

http://www.theroyalgazette.com/siftology.royalgazette/Article/article.js...

Here is a snippit from the article:
Opposition Leader Michael Dunkley yesterday claimed the Government had shown a "failure of leadership" in dealing with crime.
Mr. Dunkley said Public Safety Minister, Senator David Burch's claims that his hands were 'tied' due to the Governor's responsibilities was "rubbish", as Government held the purse strings to the Police budget.

Inherent bias against Afro-Bermudians

The insurance, banking, and religious slave-market plantation claims that they are at one with the rest of humanity but their racist methods set us apart.
For centuries Western sub-culture has stifled the whole of humanity in the name of so-called spiritual experiences.
On the banks of the Nile river valley in Egypt on the African continent, the truth stands naked for all those who have eyes to see!
In order for Afro-Bermudians to throw off the seemingly invisible yolks of oppression,we must bring the processes of history into the clear light of day.

National Heroes Day

The Premier announced that the first National Heroes Day will be observed next year.

I like the implementation of it, however I have doubts about replacing the existing Bermuda Day (Heritage Day) with a new holiday. Bermuda Day has its own unique significance and I don't think it should be diminished so easily.

Response to Makai Dickerson's letter in the RG

Just browsing through the RG and saw the letter Makai has written in response to Michael Dunkley's attempt to clarify his previous comments. This post isn't to justify or defend or comment on the fact that he made any comments of a political nature, because neither side of the fence can claim to keep politics out of non-political issues, but rather look at his points as to why no one is stepping forward. Because surely this is the most important message, why a killer can remain anonymous (and advoid punishment) in Bermuda today.

Here are the 6 reasons:

Grand Slam course vandalised

http://www.theroyalgazette.com/siftology.royalgazette/Article/article.js...

"Mr. Furtado is among those baffled as to the why anyone would want to commit such an act, but acknowledges the fact things could've been far worse."

Do people hate the government that much that they would vandalize the golf course just to ruin an event Dr. Brown and the Dept. of Tourism worked hard to bring here? I believe it was politically motivated because the letters qlq were sprayed/poured on the course.

Disturbing media trends...

I am concerned at media manipulation which I find to be well underway in bermuda currently.
A few weeks ago, Minister Paula Cox gave a rousing speech at the Labour Day celebrations. The RG editor then wrote an editorial implying that this was the possible beginning of her push for leadership, and to let bermuda know that the PLP have more than one capable leader. He even went so far as to say she was speaking as if to show Bermuda what a Cox Government would do for Bermuda.

politics of silence

I was quite annoyed with the fact that Michael Dunkley would use the murder of shaki crockwell to attack the government over the BHC affair,he claims that government is silent about the police documents.but my question is who is really being silent? who was silent about tillman Darrell's attack of a senior citizen?
MD, RG,ubp.who was silent on Pat Pamplin's husbands arrest on drug and money laundering? MD,PP Shawn C.RG,ubp,it is said that "silence is golden"but like shaki's case silence can be deadly

Just thinking

I overheard two gay Men talking at lunch with what they said I hope Renee Webb tries to bring her Gay Human Rights changes bill forward and those Gays already in the Party and the new ones hoping to be elected support her this time. I guess for some of them it's easy to fly in some Man and stick them in a Guest House to have fun with. I think that is one thing throughout Bermuda that pisses me off the double standards from all kinds. One day I hope it changes and we all live as one regardless of our skin color or what we do in our private homes that's legal

Will You Condemn Me?

Please read this column written by Minister of Social Rehabilitation, the Hon. Dale Butler, JP, MP, Progressive Labour Party Member of Parliament for Constituency 25, Warwick North East.

Do you really think that we can have an honest chat? Will you allow me to speak honestly on race and not immediately condemn me because I used one "wrong" word?

r we part of a trend? - if not, is the ferry the Bda's answer to the glut of cars

KAHULUI, Hawaii

- Loaded with people paying a discount fare of just $5, the $95 million Hawaii Superferry made its maiden run Sunday with a rushed launch for a three-hour voyage to Maui — the first passenger ferry service between the islands.

Legal problems threatened to beach the giant catamaran like one of the whales that environmentalists fear it will run over, so the company moved up the debut by two days.

What is your definition of a Bermudian?

Does one have to be born in Bermuda to Bermudian Parents?

Does one have to be born here?

What about someone who is born overseas but has Bermudian Parents?

What about some who was born here whose parents were not Bermudian?

What about someone who was born overseas to non-Bermudian parents but came here as an infant and Bermuda and its people is all he/she knows?

Just curious to see what people constitute as "Bermudian"

Tillman Darrell

I read the following this morning on Bermuda Sucks and was wondering if anyone here knows of this event. If the comments are accurate I wonder why there has been nothing in the press about it. Didn't we hear about Glenn Blakeney's alleged attack on Gary Moreno the day after it occurred? Did the press not run stories on it for days and days? Yet, here we have a UBP candidate allegedly assulting an older man and we hear nothing.

The color of Hate.

I have just read some of the entries on facebook, submitted by some young white students, not surprising that many seem to use the collie buddz incident with the premier , to justify their deep seated hatred. I'm sure that many would say that they don't hate blacks, just Dr. Brown, in fact some may even boast of having black friends, but the reality is that, to hate this man is not distructive to him but to the one who hates, Love him or hate him, Dr.

Adventures in Facebook Pt 1: Why do some young whites dislike Dr. Brown?

So I was going thorugh facebook (I am becoming slowly addicted) and I noticed a group called "Boo Ewart Brown" http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=4158939573. So I decided to check it out. The Intro to the group is as follows:

If you join this group, you must consistently, as in at least once a day, write "boo" on Ewart Brown's wall. So I guess he wont mind if we boo him some more, seeing that he is deaf, dumb, and blind to us voters.....WHAT?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? Honestly what person in their right mind thinks that wearing that t-shirt is a good idea?

Missed the point

Let me make myself clear, to those people who think that Collie Buddz, is a good role model missed the point of my comments.

Respecting the Premier

I have always been told that the satisfaction one receives from the deprecation of another says more about them than about the person they are speaking of.

Bermudian accents

I love the bermudian accent, the uniqueness of the sound and pro-
nounciations of words, but most of all ,the people are friendly and re-spectful.sometimes tho' I think the populace, do not appreciate their
own special qualities that is truely bermudian. It's tragic that many of our people seems to lack a sense of identity. especially the youth of today, there seems to be some confusion as to a cultural identity.this
brings me back to bermudian accents and language. I love popular music, especially reggae, soca, and Island music, Right now the artist

Nation's Leader Wants to Talk -- on Facebook

It's hard for many young people in Bermuda to believe, but the island nation's top government official really does want to be their friend -- their Facebook friend, that is.
