Boy, when it gets good it gets good. Last night we were treated to a Press Conference where the would be Premier spoke about how Mr. Adderly was a strong supporter of the Party..... yada yada yada. Guess the Milkman's milk was sour as Mr. Adderly launched his "broadside" in the newspaper today 'strongly disagreeing' with the Milkman.
I must say, I admire Michael Dunkley for trying to put a brave face on the situation at hand. I just wonder how long he's going to be able to keep up the facade with all the smiling faces concealing the still dripping wounds from the back (Wayne always shows up).
Then, we get treated to Shawn Crockwell and his oratory skills. When asked about why he joined the UBP he responds with this nonsense, “I believe in one Bermuda. I don’t think the PLP represents Bermuda. I think they represent one segment of Bermuda” Oh really.. I'll take that to mean either 2 things. Either he meant the represents the PLP Side of Bermuda or we represent Black Bermuda. I think he's wrong on both, but then again when you talk so much you are bound to say something silly.
I just can't get over the UBP. Every day they talk about race race race, but just in more subtle terms, claiming we are divided and their solution is to elect them. Claiming we only represent ONE SEGMENT of Bermuda and they represent it all. I guess that's their Mantra nowadays. "Vote UBP, we have more white members than the PLP. "
Can someone ask them to talk about something else?
Comments
Hypocritical UBP
How many remember how the PLP was attacked because of the criminal past of Rolf Commissiong, yet they now have the audacity to annouce Sean Crockwell, one who also has a criminal past.
I find it strange that the UBP would publicly attack the PLP and Rolf Commissiong yet never say a word about Sean Crockwell and his past, not that it matters because both men have proven that if you make a mistake it is not the mistake that you make that is important but what you learn from the mistake and both have learned and become very productive members of the Bermuda society. However, this smacks of the usual and predictable UBP hypocracy.
Shouldn't the UBP now offer an apology to Rolf because of the way it which it treated him, never wanting him to forget what he did?
What do you Expect
Guilden,
What do you expect. Its not the fact that Rolfe has a criminal past, its part of their narrative that says "Them lot are criminals". I'm not going to call it racist, it can be called whatever it is, but however you want to put it, it is nasty; and that is what they are about.
Yep!!!
OB,
In a nutshell.....
Or let's put it another way
How on earth are smart guys like Rolfe and Crockwell getting caught up in "the life" of crime?
It Happens
Sylvan,
Are smart people supposed ot be exempt form mistakes? When we are young we make senseless mistakes look at the number of smart friends we lost to senseless speeding on the roads. Therefore, some make bigger mistakes than others but is it fear to hold those mistakes over their heads indefinitely, especially when they have repaid society, according to society's rules? We talk about reforming persons who break the law and a part of reforming is society accepting that these persons have repaid their debt and allowing them to live freely in society. Do you not agree with this?
Sylvan wasn't talking about
Sylvan wasn't talking about societal "mistakes" he was talking about politics!!
What?
Surely Sylvan can speak for himself. However, please explain to me how you interpret Sylvan's comments to mean politics, especially when he states crimes. These gentlemen committed crimes against society, not political crimes so I look forward to your advice on how you reached your conclusion.
Throwing Stones?
For a PLP website focused on "the promotion of the progressive labour movement through both dialogue and direct political action when necessary" you guys sure do spend an inordinate amount of time discussing and commenting on the opposition.
With almost 1/3 of the posts (so far) on this site seemingly dedicated to discussing the UBP your motto should be updated ... "the promotion of the progressive labour movement through both dialogue and direct political action ... when we can find the time between pointing fingers at the opposition or defending the government's poorly accepted policy initiatives" .... or perhaps even more succinctly ...
"One step forward ... two steps back"
Whoops
Maybe you missed something, this is a political blog, and yes, we disucss politics, which consists of a governement and an opposition.
But I'm sure i didn't have to tell you that. Of course to you its not relevant the the would be Premier goes on TV and tells a lie, puts on a facade, and is called on it.
You may ignore the points, but we'll be sure to point it out.
All talk no action
That's cool. If the PLP prefers to throw stones 1/3 of the time instead of actually completing something tangible (remind me where we are again with the 300 homes in 30 months plan, recovering any of the quintuple cost overruns of the new nursing home or the double whammy at Berkeley, the $40m write-off at BHC, Club Med hotel replacement, etc., etc.) so be it ... the Wookie defense is alive and well and prospering at Alaska Hall.
Adderley
Sour grapes on Adderley's part. He was at the centre of the scrap that led to Jamahl leaving ... and the UBP know they need to get some younger people in leadership and Parliament. The PLP has done it; they're late and they know it.
Feeling like a Fool
Adderley must really be feeling like a fool. That's what happens when u play dirty, the dirt comes back to hit you and hard!! Jamahl must be laughing his head off at this.
So you'd expect...?
With regards to Rolf and the UBP's comments, and to how this pertains to Shaun, what would you expect? Dunkley to be up there and say:
"Some of you may know that Shawn has his demons in the past, and taht's where they stay. Now you may also remember some years ago we as a party made comments about a member of the PLP for the same thing. I'd just like to take this opportunity to say that we are sorry and will not make the same mistake again."
Cause that's of course what politicians would do right? Please, be realistic. If you want to talk about hypocrisy in politics please be aware that your house is rather glass and surrounded by some decent sized rocks...
Throw them rocks
Beachryan,
Political parties are not perfect but some ar eless perfect than others so please go ahead and throw those rocks because when it comes to hypocracy I think you will run out of rocks before we do.
Erm, well Guilden...
That says something about your approach to politics doesn't it? Let's try to beat the other guys by pointing out their flaws instead of trying to improve the situation. You want to have a big rock fight, fine, we'll be left standing in a field of broken glass. Brilliant idea.
I would hope it wouldn't come to that, and the PLP's platform could simply be a nice year on year summar of their achievements during their last 2 terms as government of Bermuda (that would be about 8.5 years I believe). Unfortunately, it would not be a very long list. And if you don't take everything that is a 'plan' or 'in the works' or 'it's been arranged' that's come out of Dr. Brown recently (notice all right before the election of course) and instead go on what has ACTUALLY BEEN DELIVERED, you'll probably be able to fit it on a nice size flyer. Which is convenient if nothing else.
The whole point of my post is that both parties are doing absolutely SFA in terms of helping Bermuda. They're just picking at each other like school boys with big egos and not quite fully developped brains. I was just trying to say that surely the point of this website is to move above that? If not it's no more helpful than somewhere like politics.bm?
